OMG…My favorite, get your own life, cause it’s the only one you can live show is back people!!!
And it’s on a channel I that’s included in my cable package in my new apartment. LOL
What show am I talking about?
RuPaul’s Drag Race of course!!!!!! And it’s on VH1 now. I hope I didn’t loose you there. LOL Stay with me though. This show is probably the ONLY show on VH1 that will entertain you without causing you to lose brain cells or feel like a mockery of your race or gender is being made.
Still with me? Ok lol…so the new season has been on for almost 3 weeks now. But while I was watching the show last week, I realized I had to tell more people about this awesome show. Not very many people know that I LOVE RuPaul’s Drag Race. I’ve been in love with it since the fall of 2011.
After finishing law school and taking the bar exam, I escaped right into television. I hadn’t enjoyed it in real time for years. Somehow, I saw a commercial for RuPaul’s drag race even though I wasn’t watching Logo (the channel it originally aired on). Anyway, the commercial was so good that I found the channel and set my DVR. I have never been disappointed since.
You should watch RuPaul’s Drag Race because it’s the best mix of comedy, music, entertainment, uplifting, motivational experience you can find on television. Now, you may think that you have nothing in common with Drag Queens. And that may be true when it comes to being a man who wears women’s clothes, but RuPaul’s Drag Race is about soooooo much more than men wearing women’s clothes.
This show is first about self-love. Over the seasons that I’ve watched how the different types of queens that perform has expanded. (Yes, there are different types of drag queens!) They are all wonderful personalities that have something unique to offer to the world. To watch people own their amazingness is being able to see people living life to the fullest in action.
The show is also about entertainment, comedy, and performance. Every single episode the queens create a powerfully encouraging artistic experience. They do things that major movie stars and singers haven’t even done. It’s so wonderful to watch creative cutting-edge creativity every week.
The queens of Drag Race have taught me so very much over the 6+ years I’ve been watching each season. I’m so glad that I’ve chosen to reinforce my self-discovery process in a fun and lighthearted way. Most times my self-discovery is heavy, challenging, and sad. And damnit, ain’t nobody got time for being hard on myself all the damn time! So, if you need something fun to watch on a Friday night, go to the channel that you might not normally watch (VH1) and watch how other people practically and emotionally embrace themselves. (And if you can’t handle VH1, it’s still shown on Logo!)
