It’s important to recognize unconscious biases for many reasons. My work, however, tends to focus on the reason that affects most businesses and organizations. Unconscious biases held by individuals can have devastating effects on your bottom line. For many people, there are unconscious elements in the way they make hiring decisions, assign tasks, and review performance. Naturally, it is impossible to analyze, correct or resist making a decision if you are unconscious you’re even doing it.

Helping your team members and staff to become aware of how their unconscious biases contribute to decision-making is where my work begins. Like people, no organization is the same. So, it is very important that every organization clearly and effectively communicates its goals and mission. Armed with this information, once your team uncovers their biases, they will have a better idea of what needs to be adjusted.
